Playing with your puppy encourages their personalities to bloom. Sometimes, though, they bite too hard. This is probably inadvertent, but if left without discipline, the biting could blossom into a problem. Dog biting training is crucial when teaching your dog about limits. Playful nibbling could worsen into flesh tearing atrocities. When it comes down to it, you must teach your puppy or dog how to control his mouth. It?s not a difficult thing, but it does take patience and practice. You have to teach a dog that there is a certain amount of pressure placed on different objects for different activities. Bird-hunting dogs, for example, must learn not to bite down too hard on a bird, but just hard enough so they do not drop the bird or lose it. In fact, your dog needs to learn that hard biting is never acceptable. Keep in mind that training your dog to bite in an acceptable manner can be painful for both of you. If you feel comfortable with aggressively playing with your dog, then this method of instruction can be the most beneficial. When you play with your dog, he will get excited. By teaching him the correct way to play when he is adrenaline rushed, then he will never intentionally bite hard any other time. The key is to teach your dog to lightly clench his mouth, but never actually bite down. But, it is up to you set boundaries. You should do so when it is only the two of you in the room so that there are no other distractions. Focusing him is the key aspect of his training. Older dogs can be taught the correct way to bite as well; it just takes a little more patience. Older dogs will actually respond to your voice a lot better than a puppy will. Both puppies and older dogs know their limits, they sometimes just need to be shown the correct way of playing.They know that biting or nipping too hard will result in a loud yelp. It is quite similar when you are teaching your dog or puppy about biting. By giving an aggressive ?No? response, it will startle the dog and at the same time associate this noise with the fact that it was produced due to the aggressive biting. Vocal cues can have the largest effect on a dog. By the time training is complete; your dog should simply mouth whomever he is playing with. However, there are different approaches to achieve this, and it also depends whether you are dealing with a puppy or a dog. Different methods work with different dogs and sometimes different breeds. There are many additional resources and professional tips available online that can help in the teaching process. And don?t forget, patience is crucial; each step can take a week or more to implement. But, after a bit of practice, your dog will be able to be trusted to play with you or your children safely.
